Doesn’t your blog design violates that conventional wisdom with round 60% of top browser screen covered with picture and content moving to the lower fold.

What is that picture all about and how did it land up to such a prominent place above all the good content that you write ?

Lawton, I designed this site from scratch using Photoshop CS 2 coupled with Dreamweaver 8 for code.

I learned how to design sites by actually designing them – not by school or anything like that. I took cues from existing websites that I liked on the elements and styles of good design, and I guess I kind of meshed those together to develop a style that was uniquely my own.

After about 5 or so sites, I really started to get the hang of things, and now stuff like you see here is the end result.

The original instructions, in the language of origin, are probably clearer. Triangles, in some cultures, may be thought of as squares without a corner. Perhaps you're missing a corner.
