i already bought a domain name from Namecheap. if i buy hosting (and i want the most simple inexpensive easy to use webpage setup) does the purchase of the hosting allow me to easily then set up the webpage?

Consider hosting in terms of low-traffic/dev/proof-off-concept sites + production sites.

First case, host anywhere. Likely you’ll target a specific criteria, like CPanel availability.

Remember the only difference between HostGator (cheap) + RackSpace (expensive) == HostGator provides faster + more competent support.

Second case, host with Server/CMS Savant. For example, an Ubuntu + WordPress Savant. This person will likely be a matrix-esque person who can feel “disturbances in the Force”, related to all system logs, Apache + Database + PHP + WordPress.

And problem determination + resolution comes as easy as breathing.

Savants tend to be rare as Purple Lemmings… which are the ones sipping fruit juice in the shade as other Lemmings rush over cliffs.

Production hosting will provide no CPanel, as CPanel is the bane of speed + stability + security.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Last week I bough a hosting package at Godaddy before and read your post and that cheap hosting package does not allow add-on domain. Only one domain per hosting account :(. I have purchaseed an other hosting at Stablehost which allows unlimited domains per hosting account.

I second you completely of selection criteria for shared hosting …. but i selected web hub hosting … But I had also used Site5 and i cant resist to say this thing that there is no better deal , support & hosting than Site5

I find this article one of the best on Web Hosting tips and Guides.

Not all hosting are same. I tend to stay away from the big guys and the small ones. I’ve been successful on many occasions with with medium sized businesses and they tend to give better care for their customers.

There are many traps involved with web hosting companies. Buyer be aware.

This is a great article and a ton of great comments. While nothing can replace what a server can do.

Other options exist for those of us (myself included) who just want to get a site up there without the hassle. Sometimes abstracting that away can be a beautiful thing. Depends on the job for sure.

In reply to Shannon. I've been using Hostmonster (subsidiary company of Bluehost) web hosting for about 2 years. Here you can get unlimited Space, Bandwidth and host unlimited Domains for $6.95 a year. For all this period uptime was near 95,5 %. And site was out only few times for 1-2 minutes. I think Bluehost is quite good web hosting, most advantage - fast stable work.

We currently host 47 of our websites with Rackspace on one server and our email on another server.
