Chris: Nope! not at all bashing, okay ... :) Honestly, that would be a honest reaction and a question that most people would have at the beginning. Oh yes, (I repeat) I definitely understand it's a framework and not a theme ... a means to an end, and not an end in itself, everything false into place. Say, that's a new way of helping people with making websites, eh? Also, helps designers do some kung fu with design. :)

Accept my apologies, the verbal communication of the Internet doesn't convey the nuances of emotions and is open to misunderstandings.

Jeevan — People need to understand that it doesn't make any sense to buy a design and all your code in one fell swoop. The odds of someone coming off with a code base that is as optimized, flexible, and feature-rich as Thesis on the first iteration are literally nonexistent.

This is not just me blowing smoke, either. Thesis is the evolving result of feedback from hundreds of savvy users. Each day, I get to see it operating in different environments, and on top of that, I get to see where it falls short of fulfilling people's needs. Of course, the goal moving forward is to accommodate those needs and then some.

As much as I love the pure art of design – and clearly, you are a talented, competent graphic designer – the Web does not run on design. The Web runs on search, indexing, and people's ability to digest large amounts of information in a short time. Thesis is equipped with all the tools necessary to get any site up to speed in the areas that are critical for doing business and connecting with others online.

If you gave it half a chance instead of bashing it, you would see that you could quickly and deftly modify the design, providing your own unique touches. This would allow you to not only roll out client sites faster, but you would be giving them a far superior product that can truly help their business establish itself online.

About half of the code behind the scenes is strictly for designers and folks who are most interested in sweeping customizations. I've gone to great lengths to provide an environment where creatives can excel and do what they do best.

And believe it or not, some people actually like the default design.

Pearson,
I love much of its themes, mainly by printing and the code clean and optimized. Because, after that I spent reading your blog and analyzing their subjects realized how much are good.
The drone is very good, but you must offer other subjects.
Preferably, free, here in Brazil since my blog is not earning enough to pay for another topic.
Unfortunately the Thesis is paid ...
I will await the news.

The reason why it looks "vanilla" is because design is a subjective art—if you like color, graphics, and a more customized look, you can achieve that with Thesis. If, however, you like a more minimalist approach, Thesis can accommodate you there as well.

The bottom line is that in order for a theme to be maximally applicable, its default version cannot contain a bunch of graphical embellishments that constrain the design to look a certain way.

And if your portfolio is any indication, I bet you could create a wicked Thesis mod!
