Have You Seen What Thesis 1.6 Can Do? 34

Thesis is my software project, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I’d love to show you what it can do! The latest version has been met with tons of enthusiasm, and people have been saying some really awesome things about it. Check out this video I made, and I think you’ll understand why :D

A lot of work you must have put into this!

#Joe Stamford  at 10:38 am on Oct 29, 2009

Seems a lot of back and forth checking – isn’t there a way to see what you’re doing without all the saving and then checking?

Great video Chris. I can’t wait to upgrade my blog from Thesis 1.5 to 1.6 – it will make some of my nav menu customizations easier.

I also added this Thesis Ninja (a collection of Thesis WordPress tutorials and tips.)

Awesome tour of the new features in v1.6 – thanks again.

Thank you for the easy-peasy Code Editor thingie, in particular!

This is a great video, Chris. Frankly, I was feeling overwhelmed by Thesis, and was thinking about jumping ship. But with the additional interface controls in Thesis 1.6 and this really enlightening video, I’ve changed my mind and am going to have another go at upgrading site using Thesis controls. Thanks!

Are your plug ins standalone? if so what commercial ecommerce sites are compatible

#Chris Pearson  at 3:07 pm on Nov 4, 2009

Billy — Technically, I don’t have any plugins, but Thesis runs on WordPress and allows for adaptation of anything written in PHP.

#Howard  at 4:10 pm on Nov 4, 2009

Wow! Great video! How do I upgrade to 1.6? I purchased the more expensive version, I am not sure what it is called, but I had two choices and I chose the more expensive one because I want to use it on multiple blogs.

Also, when I upgrade will it change anything with my current layout and is it possible to lose my info?

I will be trying to promote Thesis soon! I just need to get these two blogs I am doing on my own straightened out. But I will definitely be using your videos on some pages.

Thanks,
Howard

Loving 1.6 so far. Creating some great customizations with it and working on making a video about it to place on my blog. Thanks Chris for all your work!

#Carl114  at 7:53 am on Nov 7, 2009

Thanks for the Thesis. Version 1.6 is great. Update lasted only a few minutes. I am satisfied. Thanks to her!

#Ramses  at 10:24 am on Nov 7, 2009

Thanks Chris for making blogging finally a funny and enjoyable thing. And yes: I’ve seen what Thesis 1.6 can do for me ;-) It rocks my socks off. On a daily basis. Nobody achieved that amount of web development joy for me before!

#Rajesh Kanuri  at 10:52 pm on Nov 9, 2009

impressed with the work and now i am officially into thesis family

#Howard  at 8:07 am on Nov 10, 2009

How did you make this theme look so cool? I love the categories labels and the colored tabs and navigation.

Does anyone know the easiest way to place an flv video on your blog?

Thanks!
Howard

#Chris Pearson  at 9:53 am on Nov 10, 2009

Rajesh — Welcome aboard; we’re glad to have ya!

Howard — This is a custom design I did back in 2006. In all likelihood, I’m gonna turn it into a Thesis skin that will debut in early 2010.

As far as .flv is concerned, I use this plugin.

You’ve just taught me how easy it easy to handle that stuff that I thought then was for the techy guys only. Thanks man.

I just bought thesis, and I so needed a video like this. You cut my learning in half man! Awesome video, and great work on Thesis. I can’t wait to dive in…

I have Thesis … two quick questions:

Do I have to know a bit about web coding to update to the latest 1.6?

My site is running slow over the last few weeks. My hosting company says it’s a ’script’ issue. Any tips on how I go about fixing that?

#Roland Varduhn  at 7:49 am on Nov 20, 2009

Hi Chris,

Would like to jump into the Dev Package!

But hold on… Is THESIS working for other languages too?
Or if I use a “German WP Version” will it still working well with THESIS?
Please let me know. Thx!
Roland

#Carl114  at 8:17 am on Nov 20, 2009

Yes. Sure. Thesis I have translated into Czech language and it works perfectly.

#Roland Varduhn  at 8:44 am on Nov 20, 2009

Great News – THX!

#Chris Pearson  at 11:17 am on Nov 20, 2009

Christian — Two things here:

  1. You are currently running Thesis 1.4.2 and should absolutely upgrade to 1.6 as soon as possible (and no, you won’t need to know any code, but you will need to follow the instructions outlined on the Thesis download page). I’ve made significant improvements to the speed and efficiency of the codebase since 1.4.2, and that alone will speed up your site dramatically.
  2. Right now, you have obviously hand-edited your header.php file to include some JavaScript stuff, and there are two problems with this. First, you should never edit any core Thesis files. Second, you should place these scripts in the Footer Scripts section of your Thesis Options page. By placing them here instead of in the header, you will help your visitors out by giving them a much smoother page load.

Hi Chris: Thesis looks amazing and I am just about at the point of pressing the buy now button. But one question for you please: if I customise Thesis on a test subdomain I have set up, is it possible to then copy the settings across to my existing blog in one go, or will I have to make each change individually?

#Marty K.  at 5:08 am on Nov 29, 2009

Chris,

I have a request and a question.

1) Is there any way that you can put an email link or a submission form on the DIYthemes site for people that have pre-purchase questions? I’m thinking that a lot of potential clients wouldn’t have Googled you or might feel awkward asking questions via a blog comment.

2) On the “plans” page on DIYthemes, you mention that the developer’s option gives unlimited uses on “sites that you own,” which you define as “sites where you are listed as the person (or business) who registered the domain.” Now, I’d like to purchase the developer’s option and have 2 domains on which I’d like to use Thesis, but both domains already use a “domain privacy” option that I bought before I even heard of Thesis, and therefore don’t contain any personally identifiable information. I’m assuming that you check via a WHOIS search. So, what now?

#gads.ro  at 6:55 pm on Nov 29, 2009

Chris, i’m sorry for posting this on comments but I didn’t find a contact link on your website (sory if I missed it) and you don’t have to approve it.
I’m using one of your wordpres themes – Pressrow – and I would really nead a few more widgets, like posibility to add a social share button (like addthis.com) and a contact form.
This is my blog on wp: http://unvideopezi.wordpress.com/ ( in english “it’s.one.video.per.day”). I want to bring many visitators and work on userfidelity, but I nedd more widgets or mobility, like introducing scripts in the head section of the code.

#Justyna  at 6:53 am on Nov 30, 2009

Chris your theme is absolutely fantastic and I want to buy it. My question is: can I use this theme with wordpress software installed in other languages’ version than English? I want to create a blog in Spanish and Polish, will it work well together?

#Olivia*  at 9:10 am on Nov 30, 2009

You are… awesome!

#Chris Pearson  at 10:40 am on Dec 1, 2009

Gill — As of Thesis version 1.6, the only way to copy your settings to your live site is to use the Thesis Export Settings Plugin from long-time Web rockstar Greg Boser. The good news is that it’s a cinch to use!

Marty K. — I’ll see about the email link; we get a ton of mail, and I’ve instituted a new 30 day money-back guarantee that should help quell a lot of fears.

As far as your private domains go, no worries! You’re totally within the DIYthemes terms of service, and on top of that, we don’t run a police state :D

gads.ro — I no longer support PressRow; all of my theme efforts are focused on Thesis, which is an infinitely more powerful and robust platform. Give it a look!

Justyna — Thesis can be translated into other languages, and lots of people are using it this way. The owner of this site is very helpful and may be able to assist you with the translation.

Olivia* — Thanks ;)

#Marty K.  at 2:02 am on Dec 2, 2009

Thanks, Chris. Good to know. I’ll be signing up for Thesis in the near future.

#Justyna  at 3:43 am on Dec 2, 2009

Thanks Chris, it’s very helpful. I’ll join the Thesis community very soon:))
