Furniture for New Media Buffs, or Why Don’t I Just Tell You the Truth? - 16

Sumo Lounge chairs in action

A few weeks back, I was reading up on monetization tactics over at Shoemoney, and I noticed a strange post that he had up regarding this space-age bean bag chair.

Figure Out Who Loves Ya, Baby - 11

Pre-Beatles hysteria...only not really.

Ever wonder how much your readers appreciate what you have to say? If you’re like me, then sometimes you’re a little disappointed at the lack of comments or other tangible evidence that screams “we like you…we really like you.” Naturally, you may begin to wonder if anybody really cares what you have to say.

Now, I’m not overly worried that people are going to run off and never come back to this site, but I was certainly curious to find out more about audience behavior. With that in mind, I took a look at my metrics, and I was actually pleasantly surprised by what I found. By applying some very simple mathematics to this site’s visitor data (and using some common sense - what, that’s big for me!), I came up with a way for you to loosely determine how focused your traffic is on what you have to say.

Welp, it’s official. After months of talking about it (but not actually doing anything - that’s crazy talk!), I’ve finally designed a WordPress theme that has been released for public consumption. Yes, it’s true - you too can have a Chris Pearson design for the low, low cost of…wait for it…nada!

Do You Think in Blog? - 15

I have a confession to make. It seems like no matter where I go or what I do these days, I always find myself thinking in blog. Do you know what I’m talking about? Does this plague you as well? Let me give you an example. Perhaps you’re outside cutting the grass, or maybe you’re in line at a restaurant. Instead of thinking about the task at hand, you’re off in your own parallel universe, constructing paragraphs in the running blog entry in your head.

You Are the Executive Producer! - 1

When viewed in total, your blog is essentially a production. It’s a mashup of words, topics, and perhaps pictures that tell a story about who you are and what you think about. Whether you write for yourself or for your audience, your blog is part of your life’s work. Let’s face it - your time here is finite, and since you’re choosing to spend some of it blogging, don’t you want that particular contribution to be as good as it can be?

Why Blog Marketing Needs Sex Appeal - 8

Blogs are the new media, but you already knew that. Unfortunately, you’re a huge minority in the big scheme of things, as most of the population (in the US, at least) still doesn’t even know what a “blog” is, exactly. Old media is hesitant to view us as credible, and only a handful of bloggers actually make headlines in news outlets that don’t make a habit of covering internet-related issues. To me, it’s clear that bloggers simply haven’t had that breakthrough moment that takes them from local club phenom to international superstar.

Why are we so underrepresented in traditional media?

The blogosphere has a crappy PR department, that’s why.

Forging a Better Blog - 5

Whenever I write something on here, I always go back and re-read it within the context of the site design. Although I spend plenty of energy fixing errors and rearranging sentences, I really get a good idea of where I’m at in terms of my intellectual offerings to the now-cliche blogosphere. If you take a [...]
