Viral Linking, Technorati Manipulation, and Blog CPR - 4

It’s been one month since I launched The Indie Virus from a hotel room in Austin, TX. Looking back, it’s flat out amazing how one little idea can have such a powerful impact in such a short time. Simply put, I cannot believe all the wonderful things that have come about as a result of this experiment, and hopefully, you too will be inspired by what you read here today. Whether you’re blogging for business, pleasure, extra income, or plain old ego-stroking, you can learn a lot from the facts behind The Indie Virus.

Kicked Out - 1

I’ve been temporarily (permanently?) relegated from the bedroom, and since I don’t feel like diving into any hard core work at the moment, I figure I may as well take this opportunity to BMAO. Blog my ass off.

Indie Virus: 14 Days of Link Love - 8

On its 13th birthday (that’s days, not years), The Indie Virus achieved its third significant milestone - 100+ results in Technorati’s search. Let’s take a look at some of the other stats and issues that have come about during week two of the very-contagious Indie Virus experiment.

On Links, Trackbacks, and Contests - 2

Contest. Linking. Non A-listers. Cash prize? Could you repeat that into my good ear? It’s true, John Scott, the writer of the outstanding and heretofore Indie Virused “Internet Marketing Blog,” announced a $10,000 linking contest on March 1.

Indie Virus, Design Edition - 6

Since this week is all about design, I figured it was only appropriate to send The Indie Virus out to a few people whose work I truly admire. All kinds of elements are in play on quality websites - like graphic design, code, and depth of content - and I think today’s recipients really bring all three of these into play in a big way. Prepare to be inspired, as The Indie Virus is about to go to places that ought to make A-listers jealous!

Indie Virus: 7 Day Stats - 8

Late late late last Friday night, I decided to try and launch a viral marketing experiment. Seven days later, I still have something to talk about. Score. In celebration, we’re going to take a closer look at the numbers behind 7 days of unabashed coughing on non A-list blogs.

Wake Up Sick - 2

Here’s hoping today’s recipients of The Indie Virus wake up with a bad case of the next riduclous search string to hit the blogosphere.

More Non A-List Gems - 9

Although it looks like SXSW has brought the blogosphere to a screeching halt, I still want to infect a few more people with The Indie Virus while I’ve got some idle time. After one day of the experiment, exactly zero links are showing up on Technorati. Of course, if you’ve followed Technorati for any amount of time, then you know my last sentence carries about as much weight as a girl who is two weeks pregnant.

The Virus You Want to Catch - 32

I’m starting a new experiment tonight that I’d like to have some fun with over the coming weeks, but there’s a catch - I’m going to need some help from you, my critical-thinking, curious readers. Essentially, I want to launch a viral linking campaign with some pretty loose guidelines for the links. I’ve constructed this in such a way that I (or anyone else who’s interested) will be able to monitor the progress of the experiment as it (hopefully) spreads across the blogosphere.
